Combat Sports FAQ
The UFC has set and broken records for PPV sales for years. Knowing this, does anyone think that MMA will replace boxing as the combat sport to watch in the near future?

UFC ppv’s are already outselling boxing, so aren’t they already the premier combat sport. It’s just a matter of a few old-timers at ABC (which owns ESPN) realizing that the boxing they loved in the 50′s, 60′s, and 70′s doesn’t exist anymore.

I believe it will eventually surpass boxing as the “main’ full-contact combat sport for spectators. However, the method one uses to make such a distinction is suspect, at best. How does one count it so? Dollars spent by spectators via pay-per-view and ringside viewing? Amount of fights per year promoted and held? Length of time it has become a televised or wide-spread spectator sport?
So, I suppose the answer really is that in some ways it has…in other ways, it will be…and in still other ways, it never will.

Yes I believe so, MMA incorporates boxing, wrestling, kickboxing and jiu Jitsu into it.
Some people also argue that MMA is safer than boxing, due to the fact the referees will stop a fight if they believe a fighter cannot defend himself whereas in boxing a fighter has a count to get back up and continue fighting

UFC is great but Boxing has been around for a long time. I think both sports can hold their place. There is no need for competition but i cant see ufc ever being bigger than boxing. To some people ufc is nothing more than thuggery and guys rolling around, not that i think that but thats the general perception by folks not knowing a lot about the sport. Both sports will be around forever.

the only reason i say yes is because the boxing promoters got to greedy and hardly give us any good fights. but theres nothing like a championship prize fight between to world class fighters..

It already has. Boxing has pretty much died.

Not if they keep holding fights as often as they do and bringing in the wrestling like showmanship.
